I recently stayed at a hostel in an old LA home, and I must say, the location was exceptional. It was within walking distance to the Fonda Theater, which was perfect for me as I was there to see a concert. The hostel's central location also made it convenient to visit all of the iconic attractions in LA. The neighborhood street it was situated on was quiet and safe, creating a peaceful and relaxed atmosphere. I appreciated the full kitchen available for use, even though I didn't end up cooking. The staff was sweet and helpful, and the rooms and common areas were generally clean. The hostel also provided sheets, blankets, and pillows, which were helpful. I had a pleasant stay and would recommend this hostel to others.

During our stay at The California - Hollywood, we were impressed by the great location and secure gate at the front. It made us feel comfortable leaving our bags in the room. The area was also very walkable, with easy access to the subway and a convenient 7-11 on the corner. The rooms were quiet, and the other guests were respectful, keeping to themselves. We also appreciated the organized fridge with labeled belongings. our first hostel experience was a positive one, and we would definitely choose to stay here again.

The location of the hostel is perfect for exploring Hollywood, as it is conveniently situated close to iconic attractions. The area felt safe and walkable, with a 7-11 nearby for any quick needs. The rooms were quiet and comfortable, with organized fridges and labeled food storage. The staff was helpful and the common areas were well-maintained.
Some bathrooms could have been cleaner, but this is to be expected in an older building with multiple guests using them.

The house at California - Hollywood was beautiful and the backyard was a great place to relax. The location was convenient, with Griffith Observatory and Hollywood Boulevard within walking distance. I also appreciated the availability of free parking spots on the street. The staff member I encountered was friendly and helpful.
Although the hostel atmosphere could have been more vibrant and there were some long-term residents, the quietness and considerate behavior of both staff and guests made for a pleasant stay. The kitchen was well-equipped and allowed me to save money by cooking my own meals.

OMG, staying at this place was like winning the travel jackpot! Alex and Letti, the owners, are the coolest humans ever! They greeted me with huge smiles, provided towels and a lock for my locker, and gave me a fantastic tour of the whole place. And listen to this, they just let you be, without being all up in your business - so refreshing! The safety here is next-level with cameras everywhere, making me feel like my stuff is in good hands. The outdoor spaces are mind-blowing, with a front and back garden where you can kick back and relax. Oh, did I mention how quiet it is? Despite the number of people who stay here, it's strangely quiet during the day, but once nightfall hits, the social vibes start flowing, and you can even whip up some delicious grub with other guests. Super safe, warm, and the perfect spot for us exhausted travelers to recharge our batteries. Seriously, this place was jaw-droppingly nice!

The bathrooms could have been cleaner, and the hostel could benefit from better maintenance. the noise level in some rooms was disruptive, especially in the mornings.

As a tourist visiting Hollywood, my stay at The California was exceptional. I spent a week exploring the city and the hotel's location was perfect. From the moment I arrived, the staff was incredibly polite and friendly. The other guests were also very nice, making the atmosphere welcoming. The highlight was being able to see the Hollywood sign while walking up to the hotel, and it was just a few minutes' walk to both a Metro station and the famous Walk of Fame. The hotel itself was spacious, with a lovely garden in the back and a terrace in the front. My room even had a big balcony, adding to the overall charm and comfort of my stay.
I do recommend this hotel.
